Guildance on managing employee

    Given that OP posted his request for advice three days ago, and hasn't been back since, I think it s safe to say that none of us will ever get to the bottom of this one....
    I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

    The employee was not happy about having their behaviour questioned. OP is now in hospital.

    There needs no clarification as the OP was quite clear that they HAD lied not that they THOUGHT they had lied. Which is the same point that Moji made which is why I thanked them for making that point.
    However clear OP is that the employee has lied, OP has still not given any indication that they have spoken to the employee. Not challenging the employee about the matter is to ignore the source which has the most potential to give a different picture. Albeit the employee could lie some more, they could also tell some truths that had not been taken into account. OP would have the challenge of discerning, but might also have the benefit of learning something about the business which they were not aware of.

    Once they have been heard, if they are found to be lyingat anything but the most trivial level, then of course, they should go.

    They are more or less the same issue, just a question of how far in you go with it. OP has expressed some doubt about their own handling of the matter. So a reminder to talk with the employee is a totally valid point to make. It allows OP to come to the point of being totally certain about what has gone on. It also affords OP an opportunity to evaluate whether expectations are being correctly set and whether the recruitment and induction process is working properly.

    I cannot see why you and mojisola are making such a big meal of having a problem with this.
