Pc World Refund Issue ?

Hello
Any help here appreciated.
On the 15th of this month ( June ) I purchased a Phillips LX2000 media PC from PC World, the price on the ticket was £599 including a 17" monitor, but when I went to pay for it they told me the price was wrong and it was £140 for the monitor ? I pointed out that it includes the monitor in the price, he insisted it wasn't, and so I asked for the manager.
As usual in PC World, the other staff interupted him with other customers issues which made my blood boil, and I politely asked him to deal with me first, he walked off with my sales man, and came back saying the price was wrong, but he would discount it half price, I agreed and payed by credit card.
Yesterday, exactly the same PC was advertised on TV at £599 including monitor, "I'm off down there tomorrow" I told my wife.
I presented this to the manager who himself was not in the slightest interested, and told me because I agred to the discount and also never raised a complaint within 7 days I had no recourse ?
I tried to point out that the price was correct at £599 on the ticket but it was them who said it was wrong, yet it's now £599 with the monitor ? I took the sales ticket from the shelf ( with his permission ) and it was dated the 3/05/07 so as far as can make out the original price was correct.
Am I able to do anything about this ? I was so furious, I had to leave before I said the wrong thing, blatantly arrogant people don't do it for me and inexperienced managers aren't on my list either.
I have sent a similar email to PC World customer service, but I don't fancy my chances.
Am I right, or are they ?

Firsty, because of the nature of their business, PC World will get lots of complaints via email. I would print off a hard copy and send it by post. Set out a timescale for dealing with your complaint or at the very least acknowlegement of receipt of your letter. It shows you are serious.
Legally, showing goods at one price and charging another is covered by the sale of goods act. It must honour the price shown on the item (you must be able to match the barcode number or stock number on the product to that shown on the "shelf edge label") however, the retailer can legally withdraw the item from sale thereby preventing you buying it should they have made a pricing error.
You have a right of return. What I would suggest is to take back the items for refund then buy the package again (or get someone else to do it for you or travel to a different store) PC World don't like giving refunds as I found out several years ago. Here is what I did.
I bought a webcam only to find I could get an equivalent one with the same spec elsewhere. On returning to the shop I was greeted by a "typical" PC World advisor (need I enlarge on what they were like?) I explained I wanted to return the camera. He told me they did not do refunds only exchanges on faulty items. I explained that it did not function as I had expected, this was true. It really wasn't that great, but then neither was the cheaper one but it WAS cheaper. I was again told that if it were faulty they would exchange or give a credit note. I said I wanted my money back. I hit upon the idea of using the pictures on the back of the box. These were at much higher resolution than those I experienced. You could use something like that if they get bolshy. I involved other customers, much to the annoyance of staff. The duty manager insisted I would only get a credit note. My response was that I would possibly use PC World again in future if they complied with my request. If I got a credit note, it would be of no use except as evidence to the Trading Standards. Finally, they backed down and gave me a full refund.
Persist, insist. you will wear them down.0 -
Hello jedmc571
I'll move your thread to 'The (Consumer) Vent' board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

On the 15th of this month ( June )
Is this a premonition? Seeing it's due to happen in about a weeks time I wouldn't go and wait and buy it online when the offer is due :rotfl:
Sorry, this has made me laugh!
Seriously though, you can get a refund on it. I wouldn't waste too much time in the store if they seem to be refusing. Just ask for maybe an area managers contact details or someone higher up, wasting time arguing isn't worth it.0 -
PC World price match themselves in (think either 7 or 14 days)
their head office in Hemel has a phone number for complaints, dont know it offhand but your receipt will the address for them.Snootchie Bootchies!0
