Hello all...
Basically, cutting a long story short...
My sister came over to play a dvd of her in Egypt on my boyfriend's laptop....when she put it on, it came on full blast and the volume wouldn't turn down....after about ten seconds I just pressed the off button and turned the laptop off completly......
Now the sound won't work at all.........nada.......zip....nothing!!!! Not even when external speakers are plugged in....
Needless to say I'm in a bit of trouble.............
Basically, is there anyway of rectifying this little...ahem, upset  ??
I've heard something about usb sound cards???!!!!!Would they work???
Many thanks in advance

Try a system restore, (start, help, system restore).
If that doesn't work
start, run, chkdsk c: /F/R and reboot
As you have found out, switching off a PC without shutting down is bad..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thank you
Apparently neither of them are options because boyfriend says he'll lose everything on his computer............... I forgot to mention its his work laptop....
Any other options?

With system restore he will only lose any programmes installed after the restore point you set it to - not any data added such as files in word etc. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

backup to the work server or usb key if he is worried, system restore is designed to undo changes to windows/software etc, not users data, if he has saved stuff to the desktop, it may be prudent to move them to a different directory before trying it.
Failing that, get the work techies to look at it.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
