Council flat "unannounced home visit"

Excuse me, I wasn't stirring. The pet issue is valid - if the council have received a complaint about the number of pets you have it's common sense that they would want to investigate. Telling you when they are coming would enable you to "hide" the extra pets somewhere, which defeats the bloody point. You are in social housing - that is a privilege. The council have a right to protect their asset from those who break the rules.
As for your daughter's situation, she is claiming JSA. I cant imagine she is making payments on her £30k debts, hence her creditors may well be visiting to try and get her to pay her debts. As she hasn't started the bankruptcy proceedings yet, those that come to the door may well be bailiff-type callers. Again, a valid reason you might be so concerned about your adult daughter opening the door to somebody who looks "official".
As for trawling through past posts, I didn't need to. I posted on both if the threads I referred to and remembered the situation from there. I have a good memory. Besides, if you don't want people knowing about aspects of your life, don't post them on a bloody public forum.
I already volunteer, thank you.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Since when were bailiffs involved in bankruptcy cases???????????????
If the DD goes bankrupt she will be invited to interview with the Insolvency Practitioner. Most interviews are conducted over the phone.
She hasn't filed yet. It's safe to assume she's being chased by creditors though. Some of whom may well pay for doorstep visits.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Door step lenders have no legal authority; the postie has as much as they do. So no one needs to fear them turning up.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

OP, I haven't read your previous threads and things well may be different now.
However, you posted about a situation without giving us all the facts (possibly).
We cannot 'guess' why they are visiting, only make suggestions based on what you tell us.
As someone has already said if you have nothing to 'hide' then there is nothing to worry about. If you have an idea of why they might be coming then we might be able to help further.0 -
When they pop around your daughter can talk to them and show them she is living there, it's probably a visit to check you aren't letting to anyone else.Needing to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0

OP - you can't get all protective over a house you don't own - a single announced unannounced visit is all we are talking about.
If it is to do with your six cats then you have no one to blame but yourself.
As for your daughter, the info from notanewuser sounds familiar, I think I recall the thread. So I do ask why you are treating your daughter like a child. If she can run up £30k debt then I am sure she can answer the door.0 -
As I mentioned earlier on - spoke to my HO and he is coming over tomorrow.
And, no it is nothing to do with the cats.
I will leave all the assumptions about my daughter, will not comment on that.
Anyone wondering about the "poor little old lady who complains about my dog/cats and who I mentioned in another thread (re cats) - she has just thrown out of her window (second floor) 2 thick glasses and few bottles after perfum, broken glass all over the pavement/garden as all shattered on the way from her window.
So - get the full story before commenting on bits and pieces when someone selectively mentions those.
Thanks for all the relevant, helpful posts.0 -
HO was here, checked our passports, admired the bathroom I have put in myself, asked if there is sufficient underlay under my laminate, asked when daughter moved out/moved back in, gave the dog a pat on the head and all good.
Thanks everyone.0 -

Thanks everyone.
Just curiosity but did they ever tell you why they needed to visit you?0 -
He said this is because my daughter moved back in (which I notified them of) so they needed to check the dates she was away from home.
He also checked our passports and had a look around the flat - I had bathroom done myself and laminate floors put in when I moved in.
But he was happy with the quality of the work and the underlay I used for the laminate (apparently, in flats you are not supposed to use laminate floors because of possible noise while walking etc).
4 cats were in the living room, can number 5 poked her head in. Cat number 6 was asleep on my daughter bed. He did not even ask about the cats.
So all good.0
