Scam email from 'Paypal'

Just a warning to others. I received two emails recently (last one yesterday) supposedly from Paypal saying there was a problem with processing payments and instructing me to follow links to put this right.
I rang paypal and they advised me it was a scam and to forward them the emails before deleting them.

Must admit I was about to click (foolish I know) as I was concerned a recent purchase wouldn't go ahead but something niggled and thankfully I found out in time.

Most of the phishing emails for Paypal will have "Dear Paypal User" at the beginning, rather than your name, so usually easy to tell.

I get several scam bank, pay pal and income tax emails daily - possibly because we have a business, we have also had scam yellow pages demands. Then theres the ebay ones saying that a customer has not received an item - well, I never sell on there so thats easy to ignore but then you may get ones saying payments have been made from your paypal account. JUST NEVER click on any links in this sort of email, go to the site concerned and check your mail on there.

Ignore any email asking you to click on a link and enter your details. They usually dont have your name, have bad grammar or spelling and if you point at the email address you will see it is nothing like the company they say they are.

Some of the not so lazy scammers actually sell you something or win something your selling to get your name.

Spell your name differently on ebay and paypal. Like Pete on one and Peter on the other.
I also use a different email address for each.

I had an email this morning from Paypal saying:

"You recently tried to pay with PayPal online but the transaction was declined because:

Your credit or debit card provider did not allow the payment to go through.

If you have another card added to your PayPal account, just go ahead and complete the transaction using that. Or you can add another card now.

Yours sincerely,
PayPal"

My name was correct on the email but the transaction is shown on the PP site as accepted - I did not go through that link btw!
My bank & credit card details are all correct and up to date too. (My bank account is very healthy btw).

I've sent the email to 'phishing @ paypal' as it just does not add up.

Ive had the above email however it had my full name as well, rang paypal and they confirmed it to be BS

Apparently the email isn't phishing according to Paypal:

"Thanks for taking an active role by reporting suspicious-looking emails. Although we've determined that the email you forwarded to us is not a phishing attempt, our security team is grateful for your concern."

but my PP account shows the transaction as completed, not declined. No contact from the retailer - so, maybe the goods will come, maybe they won't!

Edit to add: goods are on the way, email from the retailer rec'd today, so the email was a scam.

Sometimes you need to be wary as they have a genuine link and a fake one.
