TP-LINK router with Zen

Hi just trying a TP-LINK router (W8951ND) with Zen Internet for (yet another) neighbour.
Connect stats looks good and I'm sure I browsed a couple of websites initally but now nothing.
I'll try tracert google.co.uk the next time I'm over (forgot that one).

Could this just be DNS not set up?

Assuming it's ADSL and not Fibre...

Have you entered their Zen login details etc?

There's a list of settings, including DNS server addresses, here:

The TP-LINK is a funny beast. I ran the wizard and that seemed fine (with data you pointed to - thanks!). But looked at the settings afterwards and it says stuff like "ISP = Bridge Mode with 1483 Bridge LLC" and rubbish like that. Connect stats look ok.

Perhaps I should put a pin and reset the router? Not clear where to put the DNS server information.

EDIT: Zen instructions for Mask say 255.255.255.255
That won't work. Should this be 255.255.255.0 ?

A reset never hurts, it's bailed me out on numerous occasions :D

I've never had to setup up a TP-Link router so sorry if you've already done all this.

I don't know which version it is but, from looking at the manuals, the DNS settings seem to be under LAN settings in the interface.

It should pick it up automatically from Zen, mine always did when I was with them. But putting it in manually won't do any harm.

I suspect you've already looked in the manual, but there are manuals here if you want to look:

Zen said on the blurb "You get an I.P. address and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.255."

Then later I see "If you have opted for a single public IP address then that [gateway address] shouldn't need to specify it anywhere." Oh blimey...what is this tech speak?

Ah I misunderstood what you were asking, a Subnet of 255.255.255.0 is used on the local network.

The thing you're referrring to is if your neighbour has opted for multiple ip addresses from Zen, you only get one as standard and have to ask for more than 1.

Assuming they've only got one then you won't have to worry about that bit.

You shouldn't have to worry about that even if you have more than one IP address. Leave it to get that info dynamically and it sets it all correctly .I have an 8 IP block from Zen and let the router get the info itself.

Judging by my experiences this afternoon (whilst down t'pub ) some dns servers have been very slow (e.g. Googles and the Talk Talk one too) I know it was a DNS problem since I switched to my backup Hosts file on my linux box thus missing out dns lookup and some sites were faster.

Blimey - if was a slow DNS I've had an unlucky day.
Did a hard reset and ran through wizard and it worked BUT only at the master socket. Looks like a wiring problem to an extension.
    Thanks.
