Hi, I am a first time buyer and have just received a quote from a firm and would like to know if it seems reasonable;

Fee £495 (includes 10% discount for Local Authority worker)
VAT £99
Searches £300 (approx)
Photocopying and CHAPS £52.80
Land Registry £270 (approx)

Many thanks for your replies :beer:

    It all depends on the purchase price and where in the country you are...

    I would say if this is under the £250k mark then its a little on the expensive side. I would imagine closer to £400 would be reasonable plus vat. Searches are pretty much the same everywhere.

    The solicitor i use would typiclally charge around £350-400 plus VAT but we get it discounted due to the amount of business we send her. I would expect an average person to pay around £400-450 - however if your in london or the SE or the purchase price is say £300k plus then its probably not that unreasonable.

    Thanks ACG, purchase price is £220k and in the South East (Kent). I'll get a couple more quotes, was more suprised at the searches and land registry costs to be honest.
