Good point, although interestingly it seems that people are getting domain names for the reasons above and also for a more permanant email address. ISPs go under and can be bought out or merge and I also experienced a Hotmail outage for a day recently. I guess it also leaves reliable email hosting options open too. I currently looking for a contract job so I wonder if that sort of sounds self self employed-ish (although I'm hoping not to be self employed).

Thanks BS I thought you might of meant in the context of a CV, looking established might be a con rather than a pro.
I've actually had quite a good look around now and I can't seem to find a definitive source for general etiquette with this stuff so I appreciate the feedback from all you guys. Perhaps I should set a site up "Internet Conventions" using my newly acquired domain name : )
