My email address

Hi All
I've just started looking for a job and in the process, I discovered that using an email address like Hotmail or Yahoo is deemed by some as perhaps being out of touch and non technical. So not good for CVs.
Although I don't agree, I'm actually looking for a tech job, so I went with the flow and got my own domain name. This enables me to have my full name after the @ and anything I like before it e.g:
contact@milesschriber.co.uk or
miles@milesschriber.co.uk or
cv@milesschriber.co.uk
etc, etc, etc.
I'm trying to make it look the least generic, computer generated, or with repetition (miles@miles...) as possible.
I know it's not a biggie, but a job is potentially at steak so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the matter.
Thanks in advance.

admin@, info@, ceo@
I have always managed to find IT Tech roles with a gmail address, only thing i was ever told re email addys was not to use addys like hotstuduffin@hotmail and sexysue@yahoo
I have seen applications that use inappropriate addresses, and they are usually added to the comedy application pile.0 -
As someone who's done a lot of interviewing in the past, I've never thought a Yahoo or Hotmail address for a personal address was a problem, but then I wasn't interviewing for IT/Techie roles, so you have a valid point.
It was email addresses on CVs that started with such as vodkagirl@ or partybabe69@ or even on one memorable occasion bigb00bies@ that put me off a candidate before I read the rest of it.
You're right to consider that your email address conveys something about you. Good luck with the search and I'm sure you'll make the right decision with your email.0 -
And, when you proof-read your CV, check for homonyms (like led/lead, steak/stake) which aren't picked up by spell-checkers.0

miles@milesschriber.co.uk sounds as if you are already well established to meBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

I must admit I advised one contractor that used to work for me not to use an Aol email address as that looked out-of-date but I didn't think it applied to hotmail/yahoo/gmail ones though (my CV had my hotmail address on it and it didn't seem to get in my way, although I'll admit I wasn't applying for a techie role but I do review CVs for IT developer roles).0

Nobody is going to look down on you for using a Gmail address or similar. Even if you register your own domain, all that shows is that you can register a domain and configure an Email account. So long as your Email address is concise and not something like iluvbig@boobies.com then there should be no issue.0

Been working in IT for over 12 years and never had an issue with my yahoo address.
By the way when an agency sends you CV's they remove your data0 -
Providing you have an email address which has your name in it somehow - not nickname. It will be fine.0

Thanks all, great comments.
Blackpool_Saver;62609637 when you said established, did you mean that in a good way i.e. you think the miles@ is a good choice? I haven't yet established this as an address, if that's what you meant?
DKLS are you suggesting admin@, info@, ceo@ for sending a CV then?
Thanks.0 -
The own domain probably looks better if you are self employed. Do you have a website in place for that email? as some may take it as a cue to look up the information to see what is on there.
If they do and dont find anything they may think why set up own domain, or are they looking to go alone in time..
Definitely avoid the nickname route as others have suggested..0
