Anyone had there appendix out?

For some reason this is the only site I am able to access on the internet. Have been trying google but keep getting a continous error!
I was just wondering if anyone has had there appendix out? As far as I know it's on the right hand side quite low down but since earlier on this evening I have been getting an aching pain.....I can't pin point whether it's the appendix area or not? Can you feel sick at the same time?
I know some may not be medically qualified but I just wanted to get some idea about the exact location, what the pain feels like, how long was the operation to remove it? Are you are awake or put to sleep? how long did you stay in hospital? I am extremely needle phobic and I'm trying not to think this far but it seems a little uncomfortable when I walk around. I'm hoping I just pulled a muscle or something.
Please share your experiences. Thanks.

we are not allowed to give medical advice on this site.
if you are concerned for your health/safety, why not phone NHS direct on 0845 4647 and a qualified person can talk through your symptoms with you. they will be in a much better position to tell if it is your appendix or not :grouphug:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

I was 14 when I had an acute appendicitis attack. It started with a sharp pain on the lower right abdomen and then it radiated all over.
But these symptoms can apply to a variety of acute conditions, so really my description is of no use.
You must see a doctor as soon as possible. Good luck.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Yes it is on your right hand side, you get pain as well as feeling sick. The op lasts about 1 and a half hours. You are put to sleep and and you can expect to be in hospital for about 4 days. You must go to your GP and find out once and for all
Good luck Chris0 -
Aged 11 I had a burst appendix, please get it checked out. I tolerated the pain as I did not realise at that age I had/have a high pain tolerence and just continued to suffer until I collapsed and was rushed to hospital.
I was very unwell for some time and have a huge scar spanning from just above my belly button to right down there!
Get it checked out by a doctor as soon as you can theres absolutely no problem if you feel unwell to go to a doctors and have this diagnosed.
Hope you feel better soon.0 -
4 days? Luxury!! I was admitted on the Tueday afternoon, operated on at midnight, got back to the ward at 4am (I don't do anaesthetics very well!) and was sent home on the Thursday - when I promptly walked to the polling station to vote!
If it is your appendix you will feel so horrible you will be glad to see the back of it, and you really won't worry about needles etc - I'm the same and would have let the cleaner have a go, if it would have made me feel better! Mine was on the point of bursting though - I don't 'do' ill and felt ill for 2 weeks beofore I went to hospital!
Good luck if it is your appendix - you have nothing to worry about, honestly.:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Lower Right searing Abdo pain.. that has little (v painful burst all round belly and back) You feel seriously nauseous(sp) and generally like poo... my nurse at the time likened it to kidney infection but worse.. (yeah right)
like other posters i was in and out of hospital within 3 days.. after i had convinced my parents I was in there to start with.. My Dad thought i was drunk and winding him up when I telephoned to let them know- in reality.. it was the Pre Med that had knocked me daft! LOL the nurse had to convince him in the end..
Takes a few days - a week or two depending on how you tolerate pain and general discomfort.. for the healing process.. biggest hurt for me was taking off the humoungous elastoplast that the docs had put over my wound because I am allergic to Micropore! now that did bring tears to my eyes when the nurse said count to three-- and ripped on number1! OUCH!
In all seriousness.. go get it checked out before the pain becomes so servere and you end up with a rupture and find urself winging it to ur local hospital with blue sirens overhead.. it isnt funny..
Hope all goes ok for you

Lucky me had two appendix removed, yes TWO one in a thousand people have them. It was a great start to January 1st 2000 but although I was in agony and have a scar it hasnt grown back thank god.
If you have pain that gets worse or you feel ill and it doesnt go away then if in doubt, get it checked out.0 -
Sometimes people are under the impression that there is pain on the right side. The pain is usually centered around the belly button, moving over to the right. You feel nauseous, could vomit, sweaty, shakey, sometimes the pain moves down into your right leg. Usually pain is not felt when pressing down on the tummy, but rather when you push down and quickly remove the pressure, this is known as rebounding pain.
At the moment you could have what they call a 'rumbling' appendix, which means while it isn't full blown, there is enough worry to get to the GP. Go and have an exam done and take away any doubt.
You do not want that bursting and any gunge getting into your abdomen!0 -
Look at https://www.medic8.co.uk I think (search on google if you can) website is brill. I had my appendix out when I had a section of small bowel removed cos it was inflammed (Chrones Disease), they took my appendix out while I was under as the appendix isnt used for anything ! I had sharp pains when I ate on the right hand side, pain when passing a bowel movement, consitpation. Was first diagnosed with IBS. I too have a scar from belly button to lady garden! Had a month off work and lost over 1st in a week while in hosp so it wasnt all bad.
Good luckJust owe Dad £2500 for a new car
