They have a high tech' version of the same thing with the automatic checkouts as ASDA. When it detects the barcode for alcohol, it signals the "attendant" to check.
However, the computer voice announces "Approval required". One day, I've promised myself, I am going to pick up the bottle and say to it, "OK. You are a wonderful bottle of ..."
I'll do it! With the crazy folk in this town no-one's likely to bat and eyelid anyway though! The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. A few years back my local Asda decided to put a silly voice system on their disabled parking spaces with Fred from Coronation Street voice repeatedly asking if you were allowed to use the parking space as he speaks in the soap. It was activated as soon as a car drove into the space. Hence the disabled parking spaces were always empty as they were such an embarrassment for the disabled drivers, Asda dumped it after a few short months. One of the worst ideas they have ever had. I started shopping in Tesco at that time.0

This sounds rather like the questions on the US Visa waiver form:-
Are you a terrorist ?
Just as effective probably !0 -
They probably wouldnt do anything if you did click it.

That one's more to do with the sale of medicines or the like as they need to be sold by a pharmicist but the pharmicist can merely acknowledge the sale, whilst another member of staff is the one actually serving you.
In terms of Budgens alcohol sales bell pantomime this protects them from the kids that get sent in by trading standards as they have been told not to lie about their age but it offers no protecting or limitation of liability for selling to a minor, the mere fact that the person who buys the alcohol claims to be 18 doesn't limit liability of the shop, otherwise we'd have a lot more 14-17 year olds getting sold alcohol a lot easier "you over 18" "yes" "that's fine"Bought, not Brought0 -
