What to do???

Hi all,

Just a bit of a dilemma, if anyone can give me any further ideas please x

I have omitted the exact details incase the trader comes on here.

About a month ago I sent an item via a special delivery silver plastic envelope to be refurbished. The items were wrapped in a protective cover, and then sent in the above envelope.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and the refurbished item comes back to me, minus protective cover.

I contact trader who claims he couldn't have lost it and he's looked everywhere and contacted all of his other customers!

I sent the cover as the item was high value and it needed protection, now I can't buy the cover separately, only on eBay for a small fortune and I am considerably out of pocket.

Trader has clearly kept it or sent it back to the wrong person, can anyone think of anything I can say/do to resolve this, as I just seem to be going round in circles with this person?

Many thanks.

and did you pay for the refurb with a credit card?
  • Cover would be over £100 which is a lot for a cover, for me anyway!

I would threaten him with an alternative website about his company unless you are reimbursed or the cover magically turns up.

Hmmmmm, not sure about this one as it's really your word against his.

I'd start by sending him a formal letter setting out what you have told us, and ask him to replace it, or cover the costs of a new one.

He obviously can't be sure he didn't receive the cover in the first place, otherwise he wouldn't be checking with other customers!

If he doesn't play ball, send a letter before action, and let him know that you intend to take him to the small claims court. If you do that or not is up to you, but he may pay up under the threat.
