Most new claims are being properly checked for fraud and to check you receive the right amount of money from the start.
These checks range depending on what part of tax credits your entitiled to.
Some check payroll real time salary
some check living address credit checks against the property to make sure no one is financially linked.
Checks against children or childcare providers etc.
Dont worry if they need further evidence they will ask by letter.
I think extra checks mean it will take slightly longer to approve.0 -
That is great many thanks for the reply do u know roughly how long this could take... I am a single parent with 2 children and working 16 hours a week with childcare so really not sure what tax credits i will be getting....0

First question would be why did you have to make a new claim? With 3 children, did you not have a claim on system?
If it is being checked, you should have had some correspondence by now. They may issue a letter to you for some info, keep an eye out for it0 -
Hopefully if that's the case I will receive the letter soon if they need more information.. It's a new claim as I am now a single parent and the last claim i had was a joint claim so had to close it down and start a whole new claim. Thank you for replying0

What compoff said. This is really important and could be what is causing the delay.
If you were already claiming CTC, then you don't have to fill in a form you just ring up with your hours and childcare and it is added to the system.
You would only need to make a new claim if you were claiming CTC jointly with a partner and are now single?
