First utility final bill problems
Options
Hello all
I joined this company in sept/oct last year, then when they announced price hike I switched away from them which became final on 31st of may.
Firstly they claimed that they didn't receive my final readings, so having kept them, I gave them over the phone, then requested a paper bill.
I have had several phone calls, and a threatening email saying about court charges up to the hundreds, being passed to debt collection etc if I don't pay.......but I STILL don't have the final bill, despite asking them when they called me, and sending an email about it (not even a response to that one)
Where do I stand with this? I obviously don't want to go down the debt collection court route, but neither do I want to pay these cowboys without having my final bill. Since the phone calls have now ceased, I am getting a little concerned.
Thanks for any advice

The final meter reading should have been provided by your current supplier, who would have used it as your start meter reading. Either the new supplier messed up, or there was a disagreement over that meter reading and it was between the two suppliers to agree a mutually acceptable reading.
You are liable for the energy you used up until the switch.
As you have a meter reading, presunmably you can work out for yourself what you owe.
But I agree, they should provide a bill. A debt isn't a debt until 28 days after it is formally demanded (e.g. billed), and remains unpaid.
I suggest you give them a call. I'm sure this can all be sorted out over the phone0
