NPower say I've paid but I havent!

My Direct Debits go on 27th of each month- even if its a Sunday or BH they show as gone on that day
However I noticed last week that NPower hadnt taken theirs and it was 31st May which was odd.
On Monday I got concerned cos I was getting a bits skint- had a few things to pay out out for and half term last week:rolleyes: as my D/D still hadn't gone I cancelled it as I didnt want it going out randomly (a week after the date is a bit odd)
I rang NPower last night and told them and the guy said they definitely took it on the 29th as it was a BH weekend!
I said they cant have, the system must be wrong or will turn round in a few days and tell me I havent paid. but he said no I'm all paid for this month as it would normally show!!
Checked my bank while i was on the phone to him and told him again I hadnt paid, it definitely hadnt left my account. He told me to leave it til next month- when the d/d fails then set up a new one!
Has this happened to anyone else?
