Hello everyone;

I have a quick question...

I am a newly passed driver and am looking to start driving. I am 19 years old so obviously car insurance for me is extortionate.

I got a quote from Tesco for £1600 a few weeks ago and was very pleased, now for some reasons that has gone. So I thought I would try their black box policy. However for some reason they won't insure me, I get a message saying "We can't provide you with a quote" Am I doing something wrong? Why would they insure me on normal car insurance but not their black box scheme? Surely the point of the scheme is to insure young drivers

The car I tried to insure was:
Peugeot 206 1.1L LX

I live in a pretty nice area and have no motoring or non-motoring convictions.

Any help would be really great - car insurance is starting to get me down to be honest.

Thanks
Rob

    Which part of "We can provide you with a quote" makes you think that they won't insure you?

    Sorry, that was a typo; I meant "can't".
  • Black box insurance is still in its early days, and a lot of companies are still running it as an extended trial. This means that they are a little more picky about who they will insure, you may be outside their chosen group demographic. Could be the number of miles you expect to drive, the times you plan on driving, your location, anything really.

    How old is your car? Some older models won't have the necessary 'stuff' (technical term ;)) to work with the black box or fix it on to, so they may be declining on that basis.

    Finally, it could just be a glitch on the website. Have you tried calling them? Even if they're still not able to give you a quote, at least they may be able to explain why to you.

    They also have to physically fit the box to your car. I wonder if you might be in a part of the country which isn't covered by their network of fitters.
