Atlantic Energy increased estimate

I switched to Atlantic Energy (dual fuel) in March via Moneysupermarket who reckoned the total would cost me £90 per month compared with the £110 I was paying with previous suppliers. I have paid them £90 for three months by DD but now have a bill which says I owe an additional £69.81 and £30.62 for gas and electricity respectively. This is estimated and I know I'll need to get an up to date reading to them, but obviously they were given the former consumption figures to make the switch. How can they suddenly decide in the absence of any further information that I should be paying them £30+ extra per month which is considerably more than before the switch? Seems unethical to me....

    Hi and welcome, helcat.

Energy (particularly gas, if you have gas CH) consumption will be higher in winter so the £90 estimate wasn't necessarily incorrect.

Are Atlantic actually asking you to amend your monthly payments, or are you just worried they will do so because you appear to be in arrears? It's fine to be in arrears on a monthly payment plan at this time of the year.

And worrying about anything to do with your bills when the readings are estimated is a waste of time - substitute the real readings, and re-calculate the bills yourself.
