Asbestos training is only valid for a year in anycase, so you will soon need retraining, which will hopefully be better managed.
Masks can be worn over goatees - I don't suppose you have this type of beard? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Tell them you can't shave the beard due to religious reasons.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

it is American but it's kind of sound advice- -
Do you have a full beard - or is it 'designer stubble' - and how long have you had it....
I don't think that the boss can be particularly miffed if you question this respectfully - state if it is the case you don't want to shave your beard - and that you feel a course so longs ago is hardly fit training to be removing asbestos - not without revision and knowing what was going on...
ave a read of this
http://www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/training.htm and see if it will help you make an informed case to your boss.
hope it goes well.

No I have a full beard and when it comes to my next exam which is in September I will purposely fail the exam.
These companies want it all. They are a huge company and have ignored the problems of asbestos for years and now they want us to remove the bloody stuff. I simply refuse to work on any boiler that contains asbestos and they now want us to remove all the asbestos related products inside the boiler and replace them with non asbestos ones. Considering we are only allowed 30 mins to service a boiler what they are asking is simply not practicable. Plus I have no idea what the asbestos is in the boiler. The information i get from the HSE is simply the boiler contains asbestos asbestos or it does not.
It all comes down to money again, they want it removed but they don't want to pay the professionals to do it. They are going to get the middle finger in the morning, I'm not shaving and I'm going to refuse full stop.0 -
Be absolutely straight and direct with your boss. Tell him you want nothing to do with asbestos. You don't want to be sent to remove it or work near it.
Tell him you are happy being sent on an AWARENESS course so you can down tools and report if you unexpectedly find some when on site. For that you may want to carry the mask with you so you can whip it on to walk out safely. Check out the beard business with the HSE.
Otherwise no working near asbestos for you. You may find your boss says - of course, that's all I want of you.
If your boss says I want you to remove asbestos so more training, then that's another matter at which point you probably take professional advice re terms of your contract and say = here's my resignation!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.

Are you a member of a union? I seriously would get proper advice before you may put your foot in it big time.richard978 wrote: »No I have a full beard and when it comes to my next exam which is in September I will purposely fail the exam.

We had asbestos at work and we got professionals in (very good money in it for them) so I'm surprised they don't have an asbestos crew and make more money that way.
Even if you cannot get proper advice be firm but do NOT lose your temper with your employers and worse comes to worse just say you are going to get some advice first.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Some companies (mostly US-owned) used to require staff to be clean shaven. I'm not sure that's still the case.richard978 wrote: »What would happen i refuse to shave off my beard? Surely i have a right to own a beard.
But pick your religion carefully: should you be fasting through the day?Tell them you can't shave the beard due to religious reasons.
DH has a beard because it would probably aggravate his skin condition to shave daily. It would ruin our marriage ... he looks awful clean shaven!!!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I don't see how a company can complain about facial hair as long as its tidy and clean.
I called an asbestos surveyor I know last night and according to him there is no 100% safe way of removing asbestos. They know this because there has been a steady increase in cancer rates for those involved in the SAFE removal of asbestos and those that take samples for analysis. He also pointed out that those involved in the removal of unlicensed products are at more risk than those involved in the real dangerous material such as insulation. The reason for this is that licensed work is heavily regulated and its workers closely monitored. He advised me to stay well clear and it takes many years of working with these products to be able to clearly identify where is it likely to be and the best methods for safe removal. He also pointed out that those extremely experienced consultants are now making tens of thousands for their knowledge.
I'm sticking my guns and I will not be working with asbestos.0
