Returning Faulty Goods, need to pay for carriage of replacement?

Hi,
I purchased a tablet from Maplin, it has become faulty within a month and I have the receipt.

Maplin are prepared to exchange it for another one, which is what I want, but the problem is there are none in stock and havnt been for a while. They also cant tell me when the new stock will be arriving, it is just on back order.

They do have replacements at other stores, none are close to me, which they say they can get transfered into my store, but I will have to pay a £10 carriage to get this done.

My question is, what are my legal rights here, do I have to pay the carriage? is it their responsibility to replace the goods in a reasonable time frame. I dont want to just be haninging on for new stock that they cant tell me when it will arrive.

Thansk for you help
Kind regards
Andy.

Legally you're only entitled to a refund. Anything above that is goodwill, which they clearly aren't willing to offer.

Have they offered you a refund? The cost to them of a refund after one month is almost certainly going to be more than their quoted £10 carriage unless they make next to no profit on them.

If they are saying that they want to replace it (and not offer a refund) they need to cover all costs in getting it to you.
  • Hi,
I think that I will go back and ask for a refund as the goods are faulty.

If they want to replace it, I will only accept it if they pay the £10 carriage.

This puts the ball back in their court as to what they want to do, either pay the carriage to get me a replacement or refund all my money.
