Ok we moved in on the 24th of June and we still haven't received the prescribed info frm the DPS. Law says 30 days. Our contract says within 14 days. What's next?

Shall we just keep quiet and leave this option as backup for things down the line or shall we insist on getting this sorted asap?

Many thanks in advance

Have you checked if the deposit has been protected? It is worth making sure that is done, but the prescribed info itself is not going to make much difference to you so better to keep quiet in case of problems later on.

I've now checked on all 4 and nothing. Is it too early to be seen online as it has only been a month?

No, it should appear as soon as it is protected.

Does the Landlord live in the premesis?

    Nope, they don't.

Probably best to ask LL for details of where it is then and see what response you get.

We've just agreed compensation with our landlord for not protecting our deposit.

We bit our lips and said nothing for a long time. We only brought it up when we knew we were planning to move. A dispute like this causes bad blood, if you plan to stay in the house then you might want to wait.

There's really no rush, you can claim for up to 6 years after the tenancy finishes.

The size of award for compensation you might get in court can be influenced by how late the landlord protects the deposit. In our case, it should have been protected in May last year. The fact they hadnt protected in 14 months means they didnt have a leg to stand on. LL quickly accepted he was going to lose and the court wouldnt look upon him favourably due to how much time had elapsed, so agreed to settle rather than go to court.

If we had told him as soon as the 30 days were up, he might have felt that he could have got away with a less severe penalty.
