Tilt, I have nothing but respect for your devotion to the Fiat brand but when you read about user experiences with the Grande Punto, they're just not the sorts of problems you get on Jap cars.

Are you including Toyota in that statement? Havn't they been in the news recently with major re-calls world wide?

And don't forget the Grande Punto replaced the Mk2b in 2006 and the current Punto (no longer branded as "Grande") has been very much refined now.

Not a comment against Fiat, but I'd far rather that companies fessed up and fixed problems, than lied and stuck their heels in -- like Renault and their spring-loaded Clio bonnets.

Yes, I forgot about those! But they are French after all! :D

Buy yourself a better car than a Grande Punto. Can't you stretch to a Yaris/Swift/Jazz/Mazda3?

How much money are you spending and what's your priority (power, MPG, space?)

I had a Yaris as my learner car and that was ok. I'm going for this particular model because the insurance is cheaper than with the 1.2 Clio!

My budget was only £2.5k as well (including insurance)
