HELP being chased for debt that does not exist

Afternoon all

not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but in summary

i had a contract phone from O2 wihch was missold to me over the phone (basically told 2 months free line rental), which upon receipt of the phone and first bill coming in they said they had no record of this, but i did as was all done from work with recorded phone call

i returned the phone as agreed with by O2 and was confirmed that they had received it

i assumed nothing more i would have to deal with them

next thin i know bills start coming in for full contract amount (over £900)

a quick call to O2 "sorry for the inconvenience, we will sort it"

then another letter, another call "there is no record of receipt of the phone, (!!!!!!) i have a recorded call to you saying you have, ok we will look into it and let you know

no contact for a while, and debt letters start coming in from outside collection agency, i ring them and they say they will call O2

i get a response from collection agency, they say O2 didnt even acknowledge i was able to return the phone (more !!!!!!)

now i speak to O2 on there complaints chat ( i have it in black and white now) that they have received the phone that the debt didnt ever exist

what are my rights??

can they sell a debt that doesnt exist?
i have had bad logs on my credit file since the start of this (over 10 months now of two and fro)

Insist that they correct the default entries on your file, and ask for some compensation.
This means that you must submit a written letter of complaint sent by RD (not text, email, cha, phone etc), then the clock is then ticking on them.
    Head it 'Complaint'.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • how long can i give them to reply/repair the credit file?

considering all their letters require "immediate" attention

what sort of compensation can i request, due to my damaged credit file i am still unable to get a contract mobile with anyone and have had to use an old old sony erricsson on pay as u go since then
