Advice on banks response to SAR request

Hi everyone

I posted on here a good few weeks ago about my husbands credit card and that Im trying to find out about missold PPI.

I got great advice and was told to send a SAR along with £10 postal order to bank which I proceeded to do.

I used the copy of SAR letter that was provided and was told I only needed name of account holder and account number. I did all this and sent it off recorded delivery.

SO..... the saga continues. My husband received a letter from HBOS saying they had received the SAR BUT could not process it as my husband had failed to provide current address and Date of Birth.

I was a wee bit confused at this as I was told i only needed name and account number, but I have maybe picked this up wrong ?

They are now saying I have to send in a duplicate letter with this information on it.

Will I also have to pay another £10 as well??? Surely not

Is this them stalling or have I made a mistake. I do remember being specially told it was only name and account number needed as SAR information would be going back to the exact address where they send the credit card statements and the card is being paid very month!!!

Any advice, I would phone them but its my husbands account so it would need to be him and he is getting fed up of the whole thing.

Cant say I blame him but I am not giving in yet ?

Sorry for long post peeps, any advice for me, very much appreciated

Sheena :D:D

You need the account number and name to make a complaint.

You need your current address etc if you're making a full SAR. If your current address is the same as any of the aco!!!!s you have held, write back to them outlining this, and his date of birth being as they've asked for it, and see what they say.

If you're doing a SAR to see how much you paid, fair enough, but if you're doing it to find out the account number, you already know that. Your SAR is not necessarily going to show you how the PPI was sold, as it may have been done over the phone at a later date.

No, they won't charge you £10 again

    Hi there

Thanks, I was advised to do the SAR as my husband has had a credit card from years back and didnt realise he was paying PPI on it. He eventually noticed and cancelled but I have no PPI policy number or any info to go on. He says he never agree to it in the first place.

So I was advised to do the SAR to to it further

I take it when they say a duplicate letter they want me to sent them the exact SAR again just with his date of birth and address but i will point out it is the sxact same address they have been sending the account statements to it every month!!

I am starting to get a bit confused with all this hahah

You don't need the PPI policy number, you need the account number i.e. the credit card or loan account number and a complaint reason.

Write back and tell them you still live where you lived, his date of birth and that if they continue to stall, you will complain to the ICO.

In which case a SAR is of no help. If he knows he was paying it then it is a waste of £10 to find out if he was paying it.
