No it is not mandatory to give the DWP access but it can be made mandatory to set up an account.0

Data protection, privacy is justification, which you shouldn't have to give.The thing is, he was a bit persistent and asked me a couple of times why I wouldn't allow access, to which I just kept mentioning data protection, even though I don't know if that really applies. I think not giving any justification isn't going to go down well even though, as you rightly point out, access is optional.
There have been numerous stories of JC creeps insisting/persisting you give access.
You need to take control of situation & that conversation, as it's your account & your decision.
You don't know enough about it, you've decided against it.
Don't get into a discussion, they'll try to weasel their way round.0
