Having done several qualifications with C & G I've found they can be years behind new regs / technology / practices. We were advised to join the relevant institute and keep up with current stuff through them.

    Electrical qual's or others?

I won't disagree with that comment overall, however the qualifications relevant here are based on the current BS 7671, Wiring Regulations, and are far from out of date - in fact, the general complaint is that 'they' keep changing them to suit the updated requirements! :)
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

Mainly vehicle examination & investigation qualifications. It got so bad my employer moved away from C&G, to the Institute of the Motor Industry for our qualifications.

    Hi

I don't have a clue about electrics but moved into a property with a similar old fusebox to the one you have and couldn't sleep at night for worrying about the electrics not being safe, mine was the type that had the fuses that you pull out and there are wires in them, from the looks of it yours have been replaced with the mcb plug ins as others have said.

I had a sparky round a few weeks ago, was expecting to need a full rewire and all the business and a few £££'s to be spent but no he changed the fusebox and brought it up to modern standards and all for the sum of £250.00 that included the new board itself and he did some earthing on our gas pipes whilst he was at it so just wanted to say that it might not be as expensive as you think it could be but the peace of mind knowing our home is now electrically safer than it was is a relief!

Hope your little Bob the builder does not start tinkering with your plug sockets!!

Did the electrician test the existing circuits first or just remove the old fuse box and connect the existing circuits directly to the new consumer unit without any testing?

What make is the consumer unit?

That is a good price I had mine looked at I can't remember the exact quote but I know I couldn't afford it, think it was around £600-700. I might get another quote just to see what they say.
