Barclaycard - 2 DDs in one month

I have a Barclaycard Simplicity Card which is paid in full every month by Direct Debit. I have had this card for several years with no problems. However, Barclaycard for some reason known only to them have decided they are going to take two direct debits during the month of July 2013. The first one was taken on July 3rd which covered my June 2013 statement and another direct debit is due to leave my account on 30th July to cover my July 2013 statement. This has never happened before in all the years I have had this card. Also my other credit cards (all paid in full each month) are always only one payment per calendar month.
As it happens I have enough funds in my account to cover both payments but the point I want to raise is that this practise could quite easily leave people in a sticky predicament having 2 direct debits leave their account in one calendar month especially if there is a large balance to be paid. Basically it means having to pay 2 months credit card bills out of 1 month’s salary.
There’s probably something hidden in the small print of t&cs that say they are perfectly entitled to do this but for the sake of an extra day or two they could help avoid serious financial consequences for some people.

While it does appear strange to have such a short gap between payments, I would point out that all payment due dates, for all credit cards, are clearly printed on each statement. As everyone should check their statements as a matter of routine, I would suggest that nobody should be caught out by this if they have financial discipline.
Also, spending your wages before you get them is not a particularly clever idea, because if there is any issue with your paycheck or a company demands immediate repayment, there are consequences.
Plus, if you have a shorter period between payment due dates, I would assume you'd spend less money and have lower bills.0 -
barclays are well know for varying their 'to pay date'
I've no idea why
however if there are two pay dates within a particular month then you will get another month with no payment due0 -

As I said...I have money in my account to cover the DD and always ensure I have enough funds to cover all CC bills. My point was that this practise of varying DD dates by Barclaycard could have the potential to cause serious financial repurcussions for some people. My opion is that monthly Direct Debits should just be that...monthly and on the same date each month. Not as and when it suits the credit card company.0 -

I didn't mean you directly, but people in general. I did read that you haven't had any problems with it, and my point was that nobody else should either.0 -
also direct debits actually leave your account within a few days of that.. alternative dont spend on the card in those months and nothing would need to be paid...0

It's to do with weekends, accounting periods etc etc.
It's also plastered all over your statement as to when the DD will be collected.
Their accounting period doesn't have to match when you get paid. Not everybody gets paid monthly.0
