Texting while driving

Options
Seeing people texting while driving is really getting on my nerves now.

I've seen it more and more over the past 6 months, it started off with mainly young people 18-25 that i noticed doing it but lately I see older people doing it.

One one occasion I was driving down the M6 doing about 70, young girl in car behind doing roughly the same speed constantly on her phone for about 5-6 miles, I could tell she was because she has one hand on the wheel and was for ever glancing down.

Walking my daughter to school I can guarentee I will see at least 5 people wit their phones out, usually when they are stopped at lights or in traffic.

About two weeks ago I was in some quite heavy traffic and there was a middle aged women in the car behind with kids in the back, she spent the whole time (about 20-30 mins) on her phone, when the traffic moved forward she wouldn't notice for about 30 seconds as she was on her phone. I know we werent really moving at any speed and stationary most of the time, but the fact it's illegal and she had kids in the back really made my blood boil.

On another occasion walking my daughter to school a man in a large car came quite quickly round the corner and I could see his phone in his hand, is posting some inane message on facebook or texting the wife about whats for tea really worth risking poeples lives for, seems so.

I now make a point of gesturing to people to put the phone away if I spot them, most of the time they look embarrased and try to hide what they where doing, some of the time they see no issue with it and either ignore me or give me some pleasant gesture back. Charming.

While people using the phone is annoying, surely you should be concentrating on what is in front of you while driving and the proximity of other cars, not nosey around for long enough to see all the passengers and what they're doing.

It doesnt take much to see someone using their phone, a look in the rear view mirror or a look to the left. Not exactly noseying.

Thanks for the pointless comment though.

I find the biggest offenders are women aged between 30-55 who drive minis. I have seen 5 this last week who fit into that bracket and car, one of which almost went into the back of us in slow traffic as she had her head staring at her lap and must've been tapping the gas.

I've noticed similiar, stationery at lights and they take their foot of the brake because they are distracted and slowly start rowling forward, not until the last moment that they notice.

A good driver should also be aware of vehicles and other hazards behind and beside them and not just the ones in front.
If a car is about to smack me up the ar5e because the driver is busy texting or speaking on their mobile phone, I would like a couple of seconds advance notice if possible.

Or stationary at lights even when the lights go to green because they're too busy replying to that urgent txt/twitter/facebook to realise.

No doubt these are the same idiots who wake up the entire street beeping their horns at me when I wait for my exit of a junction box to become clear, but that's another vent.
