Help Please: Holiday Areas in the UK

Hi,

We (two *adults and one* 2+ year old) are planning to go on a weekend holiday at the end of August (31st) from London.
Our budget for hotel + train travel for our family is £250.

Have done Brighton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight.

Any recommendations and ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Eastbourne? I've never been, but it appears to have a large selection of hotels and plenty to do.

Cromer and Sherringham in North Norfolk are both very nice and have good rail links from Liverpool Street via Norwich. However, in common with I should imagine virtually every other seaside resort in the UK, accomodation will be horrendously expensive for that weekend. I couldn't find anywhere for less than £200 for two nights. In any case many hotels are completely booked out.

Staying away from the coast but close by will reduce costs significantly but still allow you to access easily and without stress.

As an example, assuming you're departing on the 31st and returning on the 2nd, return train tickets from London to Norwich will cost £80 for the two of you (under 5s travel free).

Staying in the Travelodge in Norwich City Centre in a family room will cost £90 for two nights on the non-refundable Saver rate. Breakfast is extra but is reasonably priced for £7.65 per person.

Greater Anglia trains do a rail rover for the Cromer and Sheringham line which costs £8.50 per adult and also one for the Yarmouth and Lowestoft lines for the same price.

So rail fares, accomodation and one day out at the seaside would cost less than £220

Butlins on the costa del skeg! Go in September when the schools go back, I did you a quote (mostly because I love doing Butlins quotes lol) Monday 9th september, 4 nights, including all the food and entertainment, for a two room unit, £212.32. You can use the money you save on food and entertainment to pay for the train.
