We recently moved in to our house and some of the windows wont open or are stuck on vent.
Is there a way of freeing them? We have the keys and this doesn't make any difference.

Bit more info needed, so just guessing . . .
do you mean the key unlocks the handle and it's then possible to turn the handle but the window still wont open?
If so you are probably tuning the handle too far - some latch plates are "double ended" (for want of a better description) and if you turn the handle 90 degrees it's locked again.
Try turning the handle about 45 degrees and give it a bit of a wiggle whilst trying to open it.:)0 -
No the key wont turn the handle on some and will only turn the handle a small amount on others.0

ahh - so I guessed wrong . .
Does the key lock/ unlock any of your other locks and are the handles the same?
Try a crowbar
or
alternatively a shot of WD40 and work the key in the lock?0 -
The keys work fine in other windows and fit well into the ones that don't open.
I think its something with the locking mechanism that's not working correctly but was looking for advice.0 -
They are 2 a penny on ebay, identify a replacement and then simply force the window with the handle to expose the fitting screws.
Had to do a few, it is a common issueI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Surely if I force the window it will damage the transom if the window locking mechanism isn't working correctly?0

Have a look at the how the lock works on a handle that you can unlock (open it and see what prevents the handle turning - a pin or latch) Notice that there is a screw hidden behind the handle .
Might give you an idea how you can spring the others and turn them?0 -

No, the only thing stopping the window opening is the lock it's self, you need to break the lock mechanism, you aren't loading the sliders.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Thanks.
What is achieved by breaking the lock? I'm confused.
The handle locks and unlocks and the handle swings to the open / closed position but the window doesn't open so I assume either the sliders aren't working or the handle isn't moving the sliders so how by breaking the lock will this help?0
