Hello,

Thinking of going to Istanbul in Last week of August, Will it be too hot at that time?

Anyone who has been there at same time?

I have checked tickets and hotels from 22nd Aug - 27th Aug and everything seems to be reasonably priced just worried about heat.

Another question would be, Does istanbul have enough to keep someone entertained for 5 days or should i go to ankara or some other place in between?

It was baking when I was there at beginning of June last year so I guess it will be even hotter in August.

    Istanbul is absolutely awesome.
Never mind 5 days, there's enough to keep you occupied for 5 years!

Would I go in August? Nope, it'll be red hot and everywhere will be mobbed.

Have you had a look on the Trip Advisor discussion forum for Istanbul? Here it is...

If you type 'August weather' into the SEARCH box at the top of the page on that link you'll get loads of old threads on the subject.

I was there June last year too, and it was hot, hot, hot!

Although pleasently so if you could get out of the direct sun during the day, but the evenings were hot & muggy.
(Most of the time I was either in an air conditioned car or air conditioned building)

I asked the locals there about the temperature, and they said it got much hotter in July & August.

The other thing to be aware of is the likelihood of being woken at daybreak by the recorded chants broadcast from the local mosque!
(Although my mate said he never head them  I think he must have benefitted from being on the other side of the hotel as otherwise I would defy anyone to be able to sleep through them)

At end of June, daybreak was about 4am!
At least at end of August it should be a little later :)

There's likely to be plenty of water cannons around to keep you cool ;)

I just had to comment on that statement. That's about as ridiculous as saying don't stay in an English village as the church bells may disturb you! Surely if the OP is interested in Turkish culture that's all part of it.

P.S. Bacon for breakfast may be difficult to come by.;):rotfl:

Lots of overland options courtesy of the Man at Seat 61...

A couple of years ago we took the overnight sleeper train from Istanbul (Haydarpasa) to Ankara. Stayed a couple of nights in Ankara, and then took a bus to Urgup (Cappadocia). Stayed in Urgup for a week travelling round by dolmus. Then bus and train back to Istanbul.

It's easy to fly to loads of internal destinations from Istanbul too, and it's inexpensive. Pegasus is as good as any...

The transport infrastructure in Turkey really is first class, as are the vast majority of the myriad of locations within easy reach.
