Well done Amazon

Recently, Amazon came up with a, frankly, batty, system whereby some items could only be ordered with something else to a minimum value of £20. (So you could not order £20 of these items, you had to spend at least £20 on something quite separate.)
There was no option to order it by itself and pay for delivery.
They seem to have responded quite rapidly to the understandable objections to this scheme and have now instigated a minimum order size for free delivery in certain categories.
A much fairer and more sensible approach.

Great news,
""We’re writing to you about our Free Super Saver Delivery service.
We wanted to let you know that Amazon.co.uk has introduced a £10 minimum spend to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery in a number of product categories, effective 23 July 2013.
Orders that include books, DVDs, Blu-rays, music, video games and software products continue to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery with no minimum spend threshold. So whether it’s a new release CD for £7 or a bestselling book for £5, you’ll continue to receive Free Super Saver Delivery on millions of items regardless of the amount you spend. In fact, you will continue to enjoy Free Super Saver Delivery on all orders that include these types of items, for example an order that includes a book for £3.49 and an HDMI cable for £4.49. For all other orders, a minimum total spend of £10 is now required to qualify for Free Super Saver Delivery.
Whilst the change will affect only a very small proportion of orders, it will allow us to offer you a significantly expanded selection of lower priced products."""
I still think Amazon is fantastic, and service is excellent.............................0 -

I don't quite understand why you say 'BUT'.
The text you quoted simply details the new scheme. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Well Done Amazon!!!!
You avoid paying taxes, thanks to rich only tax loopholes (you done nothing wrong it`s legal I hear you say)but you hit the less well off by charging p&p on orders under £10 to boost huge profits you alreay make, WHY? - If you stopped sending orders in huge boxes - EG in January ordered pair of gloves(free p&p and under £10) but you sent A box 1 ft by 1 ft approx with a tonne of paper inside -!!!!! for a pair of gloves, you plonkers!!! save your money by using the correct packaging and not by giving me 1 days notice on the super saver under £10, hitting the less well off again.
Unhappy Customer.

Doubtless Amazon will issue a profits warning as a result of you taking your custom elsewhere.0 -
Are they definitely scrapping the add-on scheme, though? Right now, it may be moot point for anybody who uses Free Super Saver delivery, since they have to meet the £10 for free delivery anyway. They can just pay for the delivery, but the add-on items are still about so it may not be possible on those.
For Prime users the add-on system is still be a bother. We don't use Free Super Saver delivery, so we don't have to spend £10 to get that but we also don't have the option to just pay for delivery. I checked an add-on item out just then and I would still have to buy £10's worth of stuff (they lowered this from £20 recently). So the add-on scheme remains just the same from Prime users at least.
Either way, Prime or not, free delivery is clearly being scaled back. This is everybody's fault but mine.0 -

If you don't like it just shop in your nearest high street. The choice is yours, frankly I'm surprised they have been doing free delivery for so long on very small orders. It's someone else's fault.0 -

Actually Amazon hardly avoids any tax whatsoever. The reason is they hardly make any profits on which to pay tax. In 2012 they actually lost money.

I'm a bit brassed off with Amazon re this but I don't think it's accurate to say they're "hitting the less well off". This affects everyone regardless.
You could possibly argue that the "less well off" are more likely to order something costing under £10 than something over £10 but this is a bit tenuous. You could just as easily argue that the better off would place more orders so would end up paying more delivery charges overall.0 -
good tip here to get free delivery on orders under £10 : http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amazon-super-saver-delivery-top-tip-beat-new-10-minimum-spend-for-free-delivery-1612970
There was already a loophole for the £20 add on, you just added someting on over £20 and then cancelled it after you have placed your order !0
