BT Reporting Error?

Hi Guys/Girls,

Just wondering if anyone can help me with a couple of questions.

I signed up to BT Broadband and Phone when I moved house in Feb this year. They ran credit checks at the time and sent out all the documentation etc. They then gave me an install date 2 months in the future, there was no way I could wait 2 months to have Broadband installed so I cancelled the service and went with another provider. No money was due to BT and I cancelled within the T&C's of my contract. BT were quite happy with that.

However, they are reporting (to Experian and Equifax) that I had two accounts with them (I'm assuming one for Phone and one for Broadband). They are both marked as settled within one week of them being opened.

My questions are;

1) Can BT report this information, as I never technically received any services from them, I cancelled everything before the install date?

2) Will these two accounts be viewed as negative by lenders? They appear to have only been 'live' for a week or so. I've always assumed lenders like to see accounts open for at least a year to indicate stability?

3) Do I have any grounds to ask for this information to be removed?

Hope someone out there can give me some advice!

Many thanks

:j

    Guess it depends how good your report is as to whether to get them removed or not.

    No idea if they should or should not do this, but if you want them removed write to BT and ask them to remove them for the reasons stated.

    Yes they can - you agreed to it! However, as the service was never provided the computers still talk to each other.

    You could argue you want the erroneous data removed, however I do not believe (as you appear to) there is any issue of stability - quite the opposite, it shows up BT for not providing required services.
