Cheap initial quotes is a way to bring in customers. They expect you to pay up and not give a second thought. Best thing you can do is look for the car insurance reducing thread on this forum and follow martin's tips. Get lots of quotes and look for the cheapest. If tesco can't beat it change company. It will take probably a day out of your time and could save you quite a bit of money so it's worth doing.0

One of the ones not listed in confused.com etc is https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk they were the cheapest for me and TPFT was cheaper than TP only. Not sure why. I think the reason they're cheap for me is I am a new relatively young driver in a high risk near inner city area. It's worth trying out though just to get a quote.0

For what it's worth, I have just sorted my husband's car insurance renewal last week so it's all fresh in my mind! I found confused.com far better than moneysupermarket.com because moneysupermarket ask fewer questions so then come up with a cheap quote that actually doesn't offer the cover you need. I ended up ringing the individual companies to get things added in to the quote (like protected no claims and business use etc - all those quotes which had originally looked really good soon shot up!). The quotes given by confused.com were far more accurate, and in fact it's through them that I found the one we eventually went with.
It's a real pain ringing round for quotes, but certainly worth getting some (either by phone or through an online service like confused.com), then ring Tesco and ask if they can beat the best quote you have been offered. Sometimes they will, and if they won't, well then they lose a customer!
As Anewman says, they offer low prices the first year to get your custom then expect you to stay the following year without questioning it. Generally, it pays to take the new customer deals, they don't seem to care about customer loyalty!0 -
Try the links from the insurance forum - I've just reduced my renewal from £300 to £200 for 10 minutes work0

Read over Martin's Article: Cheap Car Insurance: A speedy, powerful cost cutting system - many links follow the article and should give you a good idea of what to do0
