Motorway Madness

I think that it would be really helpful if the government ran a campaign along with the changes in penalities as I'm sure that some people genuinely believe that you use the central lane for "cruising", i.e. I don't need to come off for another 5 junctions so I'll just sit in this lane.
I think you are probably right.0 -

I think getting people to retake their test every four or five years would be a better way of permanently improving standards, without wasting millions on advertising materials.0 -
Good idea.
In addition an M11 specific campaign aimed at lorry/HGV/transporter drivers, usually with foreign plates, that think it is a good idea to take it in turns overtaking one another at 51 miles an hour or going uphill......0 -

Yes, couldn't agree more. In my experience of the M6 (Cheshire to Staffordshire stretch) car drivers are constantly forced to move out of the slow lane and middle lane due to the overwhelming number of huge freight on the motorway.Maybe the drivers are so bored that that is their way of enlivening their day?

is under taking the same as passing on the inside lane?
It used to be classed as different.
Eg I am sitting on the inside lane happily doing 65mph and a car is the middle lane doing 60mph but has not pulled over with nothing ahead. If I go past him on the inside with out changing my lane. is this illegal now?
If yes.
How will it work at motorway junctions when some time they split the inner & outer lanes to different roads about a mile before the junction?
also when you in very congested traffic and told not to change lane and you are going with the flow of the traffic. The inner lanes can often be going quicker than outer lanes.0 -
Just a quick moan about the idiots driving without lights on in torrential rain. Idiots.0

I don't really agree with this. There's a large section of the M1 near us that has been changed to 50 mph for works. We had cruise control at 50 in the middle lane, comfortably overtaking traffic in the left (Rather busy at the time). Up comes a works lorry who obviously hasn't seen said 50mph signs or the barrage of cones, tailgates us inches from our back, and when a gap comes up, we indicate to move back over, and before we could do, he has whipped out to undertake us, pulling side by side with us before he gets caught there by the traffic. Were we in the wrong lane? It isn't so blanket unfortunately.
There's also the people that sit in the right hand lane doing very high speeds, realise their junction has come up, swerve and dart through the lanes, and of course when they get into the left just before their junction they are undertaking people in the middle due to their speed.
Or possibly that your speedo is likely to over read by about 3mph at that sort of speed so your actual speed may have been 47mph. The van may have been using the speed on their sat nav and aiming for a speed of circa 55mph which is under the prosecution limit for most speed cameras.0 -
I can understand your frustration. I am constantly undertaking middle lane drivers. Recently I have also developed a habit of undertaking them, putting on my hazards and slowing down, they get annoyed and I drive off, last time I did that, several other drivers seemed to have done the same as I was turning off at the next junction -yes its dangerous, I need to stop
What makes my blood boil is drivers who dangerously change lanes, without warning/looking or indicating they change and cut right in front of you almost taking your car out. So annoying and worth the horn
Also drivers who are uninsured, unfortunately they almost always appear and often speak foreign languages. The police really should act and the border agency really should tell them not to drive in England0 -

It has always been illegal. The only thing that has changed is the penalties. If yes.

If the lanes are separated by short broken white lines, then the lanes are classed as two separate roads, so it is legal to undertake.also when you in very congested traffic and told not to change lane and you are going with the flow of the traffic. The inner lanes can often be going quicker than outer lanes.
In congested slow moving traffic, when the inside lanes are moving faster than the outside lanes, then it is legal to undertake.0 -

Are you serious, or are you just trolling for a reaction?0
