Debit Card Declined, will I get fees?

I pay a webhosting bill online with my debit card (it's in US dollars but this is never an issue).

However I got an email today saying this month's payment wasn't approved and I should contact the billing department.

I know this is most likely because I don't have enough money in my account (they tried to take it 2 days early which is annoying)

Is this going to be a bank charges issue? It's just it doesn't look any money went anywhere and my NatWest online banking hasn't listed a transaction or gone in to the minus.....yet

Was this technically even a direct debit, or more like a purchase that just failed and I'll be ok as long as I pay it on my own time? (I have 2 days left anyway until its technically due)

I just don't want charges

The bank won't charge but the web host might.

banks dont charge you for a debit card transaction which has been declined for whatever reason eg lack of funds, card blocked etc...

good job on this occasion the balance was checked before the payment went through, this certainly doesnt happen everytime & could have taken you overdrawn resulting in unauthorised borrowing charges.
