I have just ordered the above hopefully as a solution for the small hard drive on my macbook air and hoped someone could give me some help as to how to do what I need (if possible).
I would like to be able to automatically save files, music, photos etc to the time capsule instead of the air. I would also like to be able to access these remotely when away from home.
I have sky broadband and a linkstation live NAS at the moment. Would this be set up separately or in conjunction with the current equipment. Sorry for all the questions!!!

Did you buy an Airport or a Time Capsule?
My understanding is that Airport is used for streaming/mirroring Media (like from your mac to the TV) and doesn't have a hard drive. On the other hand, Time Capsule has a hard drive and can store media.
I don't think you can specify where to save files if you are downloading using Safari. They are stored in the Downloads folder.
I'm not sure whether you can hook it up to your current NAS setup. Maybe other knowledgable posters will be able to help you out more.
Btw, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a USB 3 external hard drive to store your media?0 -
Thanks. I have the new 2 tb airport time capsule that, as far as I know, does both.0

It's just a packaging issue: Airports all run the same firmware, and you can plug a USB disk drive into the ones that aren't Time Capsules. The only issue that that if you're running Time Machine (as presumably the OP intends to do) then USB drives can under some rare circumstances corrupt the backups (mostly those rubbish USB drives that don't do write-through properly) and therefore the TC is overall better.
I'm not sure if you're confusing an Airport with an AppleTV, by the way. Airports don't connect to TVs (other than if you use them as WiFi extenders for TVs with hardwire ethernet but no WiFi, in which case they're an expensive way to avoid buying the manufacturer's dongle). An Airport is just a WiFi access point with some basic router functionality included.I don't think you can specify where to save files if you are downloading using Safari. You wouldn't be moving the media using http and Safari. A Time Capsule supports AFP and SMB, so you can create a filesystem on it and then mount that on your laptop.I'm not sure whether you can hook it up to your current NAS setup. Maybe other knowledgable posters will be able to help you out more.
What would "hook up" mean in this context? It'll be another NAS on the network, one which probably runs AFP better.Btw, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a USB 3 external hard drive to store your media?
Means plugging and unplugging, however.0 -

Thank you for correcting me0 -
I bought the new Airport Express recently and had a few issues with set up, so called the Apple helpline and they talked me through it, very helpful. They give you a case number so that if you have further issues you can call them back, quote the number and away you go.0
