I've got a 2yo led/LCD tv. Cost £1700  from John Lewis.
So 5 year guarantee phew.....got an engineer coming Wednesday.
There is a vertical strip towards the left of the screen. It's about 2 1/2 inches thick.
It's transparent, in some scenes, not visible, some grey, some light blue.
This TV is wall mounted and hasn't been damaged in anyway as it is high up, so can't be accused of kids hitting it or water damage etc.
What on earth could it be? As a female, with no clue I don't want to be fobbed off when the repair guy comes, or when it is repaired, or if that can't happen a like for like swap....

Guesses - controller board, or damage to the actual screen. Maybe, maybe caused by bolts that are too long being used or something.
Likely to need a replacement TV unless a board is easily available and replaceable. You don't mention the model, which could have common faults...0 -

Na it's been on the same mount ever since we had it, so it's not that.
It's a Sony Bravia kdl 46xho3. I've googled Sony Bravia banding and I've seen a few with images like mine, with no wall mounts, no damage to screen, just !!!!!!. My screen is to high for it to have been hit.0 -
things aren't designed to last these days, your tv has expired, or at least that part of the screen or controller
if its the screen it cannot be repaired economically - you'll be offered a new tv if your warranty allows
if its the controller they will replace it - it may work or it may not
if it works it may fail again in a year or so
good luck

Just to say, under the Sale of Goods Act, even if you had not had the warranty you would have been able to get this TV sorted. Two years is not an acceptable time for a £1700 TV to last. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Well good news, the repair I believe is £600 odd, it needs a new screen. John lewis are paying, cheaper than obviously giving us a like for like.0
