Spark Energy use BG to collect meter readings?
Options
Hello, Sorry if this has been covered before - I couldn't find a thread on it - Got an automated 'phone call today from BG, despite never using them as a supplier (I think the previous occupier used them 10 yrs ago) asking for a meter reading. Thing is, we are with Spark Energy.
Does Spark use BG to collect meter readings? I put the phone down in case it was a scam.
Thanks in advance for reply, but please don't go on about how terribly useless Spark is - believe me there are lots of threads on this already!

No, they use G4S meter readers to collect readings at the door. We also collect readings for BG,EDF, Scot Power and several small suppliers.
BG have taken to using contracted call centres to telephone customers. I would nt be surprised if either the BG contractors or G4S also are not phoning around now to gather readings. a very dubious practice. Its odd that Spark and BG seem to have crossed wires0 -
However, there is nothing that stops them from getting the wrong number. A slipped digit somewhere can lead them calling someone across the country.0

I just hope I dont get a 10 year BG bill by mistake!Edible geranium0

Most suppliers don't read their own accounts, any more than they own their customers' meters. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

When we were supplied by BG, I don't thing BG read our meters (at least not for the last 15 odd years) I'm sure they used Siemens.
The agent they use to collect meter readings may even change by region?
I suggest you:
a) give BG a call on a number you know to be correct (e.g. from their website), not the one they left/used to call you and explain you are not supplied by BG. It may be they have the wrong telephone number for another client?
Also give Spark a call with a latest meter reading - can't but help0 -
Yes Wyworth, Siemans did read for BG in a lot of areas0
