Amazon collection complaint

I bought some fitness equipment last July. It was failing and Amazon suggested I contact the manufacturer. I asked them to resolve it rather than expecting me to deal with the manufacturer. Amazon delivered a replacement, but there was a problem with the collection of the original, as their chosen collecting firm Yodel did not turn up on the agreed date. Amazon made a different arrangement and the equipment was subsequently collected by CitiLink.

The replacement started to fail and Amazon agreed to refund. A collection was arranged but - Yodel failed to turn up. Amazon apologised and again said in an email that CitiLink would collect. On the day, they did not arrive and confirmed by phone that no arrangement had been made by Amazon.

Amazon has now said they will arrange a further collection and will monitor it on the day.

In my recent email to Amazon, I explained how their arrangements had caused me to lose money, as I am self-employed and cannot earn on days that I am stuck at home waiting. In total, I will have lost 6 days on top of the original delivery day (I do expect to have to be at home on my own time when I ask for a delivery).

Amazon sold me faulty goods (twice) and they made poor (or no) arrangements with their business partners regarding collections. Amazon have said that they do not cover consequential losses that are outside of their control. Can this be right? Is it "buyer beware" with Amazon?

Any advice appreciated - would I get anywhere with a Small Claim?

What is your line of work and can you demonstrate you would have had work had you not have up the day?
Did you attempt to mitigate your losses by choosing days you wouldn't have been working?

    Thank you.

I am a self-employed gardener and I work every day, although it would be difficult to prove that I would have been working on any day, as I do not hold a definitive schedule with the same jobs every eg Monday. Amazon could not advise on either a morning or afternoon collection, so a whole day had to be allowed each time.
