Brand New Samsung laptop- connectivity issues

Options
I bought a Samsung Notebook from Costco last month as a replacement for my previous laptop which had died. I didn't use it right away however since trying to use it I've experienced major issues with internet connectivity.

If I'm lucky enough to get connected to websites the response time is horrendous - I actually was able to boil a kettle while waiting for it to open MSE.
Most of the time though I just keep getting Unable to display the webpage errors.

I have no problems with my router and regularly run a company laptop or my little netbook through it with no problems. In fact I've often had to abandon the Samsung and go use the netbook which had worked perfectly.

The helpline have more or less said there cannot be anything wrong with the laptop and it must be my router/internet connection which I cannot see as it works with every other device.

Is there anything I can check in the settings? I'm reluctant to take the laptop back to Costco and ask for a refund (although I'm beginning to think that is my only option) as I paid to have music/photos transferred from the old laptop which I'll obviously lose.

It's taken me 8 attempts to access this forum as an example and I'm at the end of my tether.

The laptop is a Samsung NP370RSE (I think). I can't find a model number anywhere on the receipt or the instructions etc.

plug it into router using ethernet cable, see if it's the same. is this relevant? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4560685

    what security software is on

if music and photo's are imporant, it costs very little to back them up yourself, they should always be backed up in 2 places at least

an external portable hard disk costs about £40, a dvd 10p, and the process couldn't be simpler.

    .

I bought a new router just to be sure although after 11 weeks of BT Open Reach visits they finally admitted that they had replaced over 100 feet of cable and that there was probably nothing wrong with my original router!

will try using a cable later. I'm on the netbook now - just after I posted I got a windows update notice, it closed down and restarted. It's been stuck on 15% updated since 5.40.

I'm just hoping Costco will give me a refund without any problems despite me having data transferred onto it. The receipt does say they offer a 90 day refund policy.

I had the same problem with my netbook after working fine previously. I tried everything, even re-installed all OS to no avail.

I rang my IP who reset something their end and it has been fine since.

routers, like most things, either work or don't.

you can factory restore the laptop, using F4 (this will wipe all your data, so backup first) , however my guess is there is nothing wrong with it

    which security software is installed?

Which browser, and have you tried with another one? Cleared your browser cache?

Presumably it's Windows 8. Have a look at this link.

And make sure the drivers for the wireless adaptor are up to date.

Coincidentally, today I had a problem with one of my three computers - all connected via the same router - but one would not connect either via wireless or ethernet. I tried all the usual stuff like resetting the adaptors, following the 'troubleshoot problems' wizard, restarting etc, but all to no avail. The other two computers were working perfectly. However, switching off the router for a few minutes and switching it back on solved the problem. Think it was having a problem connecting to the DHPC, but just happy it's fixed.

Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
    or - Try
using it - not losing it. ;)

Thanks Stooby - I'll try that later in the week when I can be bothered to have both the netbook and laptop on. I must admit I'm at the stage of thinking just taking it back and getting by with the little netbook would be a better idea.
