Faulty Zanussi cooker

Have discovered the hard way that Zanussi products are no longer what they were...:(

Many years back I bought a Zanussi washing machine (back when it was the Swiss that made them) and it lasted many years without so much as a repair.

But, I bought a Zanussi cooker about 2 years back and darn soon realised its no longer the Swiss making their products ...:(

Hence...a side panel on the main door has now caused me to hurt my feet 3 times so far today (as it has come adrift at the bottom edge of the main oven door and keeps catching my feet as I walk into my kitchen).

It's out of guarantee period and I don't see why the heck I should replace what should still be a perfectly good cooker after such a short time.

Any suggestions to stop this sticky-out cooker panel hurting me again please? To date, I've tried to stick it back down at bottom edge with blutack and it hasn't worked (darn cooker has just hurt my left foot again for the 3rd time today):mad: as I inadvertently catch my left foot on it when entering my kitchen.

Right now, at the "rate of attrition" this cooker is causing me I fear it might soon cause a darn deep cut on my left foot..

I ain't gonna be buying any Zanussi products again that's for sure, but I do need to know just how to "keep this cooker under control" to stop it hurting me again.

Blu tack isn't likely to hold it in place as the heat will cause it to loosen.

Can you post a picture so it is easier to visualise?

I think the same can be said about many of the other big brands - appliances are often made to a price point these days. Most are made in a city in Turkey.

  • I don't actually have any photo facilities of any description.

Its a double-oven cooker and the problem door is the main (ie bottom door) at the bottom left-hand side of the cooker door.

Shortly after I bought it (having assumed their products were still Swiss-made) I realised it had actually been made in Italy.

Right now, I am wondering whether to bind round the side of that door with masking tape. It will be highly visible, but I'm hoping it might help protect my foot from further injury (since that cooker is right by the entrance of my current kitchen) and I won't be bothered about it looking very "obvious", as it wont be my fault, so why worry it will "tell a tale" to my visitors about the quality (or otherwise) of current Zanussi workmanship when they go into that room.

Gaffa/cloth tape would hold better - you can usually buy this from your local supermarket/DIY store. If the edge is sharp, try using some polystyrene or stiff packing foam to cover it.

Have you tried to contact Zanussi about it or the retailer quoting the Sale of Goods Act? It is the sort of appliance that you expect at least 6 years of service from.

    Thanks.

I bought it from Boots online service and I'll look into that...as actually the previous cooker I bought (wherever I got that from....) was Hotpoint and I think I must have had it for around 20 years.

EDIT: just realised that cooker hasn't just "belted me one", but there's a couple of quite deep cuts on my foot from the 3rd incident and I've been sitting quietly bleeding all over my carpet (thank goodness its not a new one!). Tape duly applied to the edge of the cooker and was minded to put a red arrow to the brand name on it (but it isn't there anywhere on the cooker.....).

Guess I'd really better follow this up before anyone else injures themselves on their cookers...

Looked up my guarantee and I see I got it from Currys after all and its model ZKC5030x bought February 2008 (though its been causing me injuries for about the last year at intervals and today's was the worst because of bare feet at the moment in the heat).

    That's the one:T

So you can see the left-hand metal bit on the bottom half and that's the bit that's just had me hauling out my first-aid box.

Proven to be a really cronky cooker all round - with the numbers wearing off the dials for the hotplates pretty fast too and, when I was down on hands and knees cleaning kitchen floor this morning, I could see bits of paper hanging down underneath main body of cooker (must have been all along, but I've not got quite so "up close and personal" having a darn good look at it before).

First if I were to walk into the third lampost down the street from my front door three days in a row because its set just slightly back into the pavement compared with the others would that be the lampost's fault?

Second why on earth don't you it get it repaired properly? That must be possible without having to buy a completely new cooker. Something must have caused the thing to come adrift probably somebody catching something on it. It won't have just decided to flap about of its own accord - unless it's sentient and bent on reducing you to a quivering heap so it can take over the property. :D
