Does anyone have any advice or ideas how I can get Halifax to accept £13,000 as a full and final payment off a credit card bill of £13,800? All I am asking for effectively is 2 months interest knocked off but I was told "Halifax do not do deals"
Thanks

Have you previously defaulted on your monthly payments? If not, why would you want to wreck your credit record for the next six years over £800?0

Yes, we have had a really bad few months and have borrowed against the house as our mortgage had been paid off. Halifax were charging over £300 a month just in interest and what with other commitments it was getting out of hand. This was explained to them but it was still "No deal"0

If you have borrowed against the house then your mortgage is not paid off. A secured loan is just another name for a mortgage.0

The mortgage HAD been paid off, it obviously isn't now, but that is beside the point. All I wanted was some tips on how to get them to accept a smaller payment so that I could get the account closed, but I guess you can't help me with that.0

You do realise that if you get Halifax to accept a final payment offer you will not be able to get a new credit card, loan, mortgage, contract mobile phone, etc. for the next six years?0 -
Did not make full minimum payment last month and this month was overdue. I have paid in £13,000 today that came from taking out mortgage.
I do not want any credit. I have got myself into too much trouble for too long with credit so not being able to get any for 6 years would actually be a really good thing. I know it seems rather daunting in a society that now depends on it, but I really do need to get my act sorted.
I did not think it was asking a lot from Halifax after the huge amont of interest they have charged me, especially as up until recently I have conducted my account well, they do not help though, by putting up my credit limit when it is all going well!0
