But, I do have a life and cannot spend 24/5 doing so, hence the beauty of stop losses.

Share prices move for any number of reasons. Short term weakness doesn't mean there's anything toward with the Companies trading. Could just be the result of a large holding being placed in the market.

Monitoring a portfolio of individual stocks does take time and effort. As weeding out the stocks that aren't going anywhere is equally important. I read the financial press daily and also closely follow the business news. Finally I have alerts covering all my equity holdings. So am aware of any major movement, price peak, sudden price movement or news feature.

You might as well hold funds and let the managers do the work.

I wouldn't value land at £100bn if it only made £1bn a year in rent,.

    - land and property. Take the Royal Apartments for example. Palatial Apartments in prime locations let out to Royal Hangers On for token rents like a pound a year. So you could well have £100bn of Assets producing £1bn of income. My point is that £1bn of income is much more solid than a business like Hargreaves Lansdown which may be producing the same income from a much smaller asset value. With £100bn of assets the Duchy is certainly not going to go bust!

Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity but cash is king.

Many an asset rich company comes a cropper if it doesn't generate sufficient cash. Try realising a £100bn of assets in a fire sale. The business world is akin to a shark pool.

land never depreciates is the same set as gold never changes. Of course land can devalue year to year, I take the point but try telling that to some house owners in the path of a Hawaii volcano

HL did the OP a favour, should be saying thankyou and using limit orders instead. Take profits as a better way to avoid losses, if no orders at all curse them
