Are there security tabs inside Siemens lappy???

Hi guys

I wonder if someone can help please? I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo PI1505 laptop which I bought in November 2006 and in the middle of working on an important document it switched off and now wont switch back on. It's switched itself off twice before but it's always sprung back into life via the 'on' switch.

My problem is -
As its under warranty the shop have said they will send it back to Siemens for repair but all docs etc are wiped as it will be back to factory settings. The doc I was working on is important so my friend (who works in computers) took it away to retrieve the document I was working on, and brought it back.

I needed one more piece of info and my friend is on his hols so I took it to a local PC shop to ask if they could retrieve the info for me. The pc shop said they wouldn't touch it if its going back for repair as they'd break the plastic security seals inside. I didn't think the lappy needed to be opened up, and asked my friend about security seals. He said he didn't see any in there at all.

I'm concerned that if I send it back to be fixed, they'll say the seals have been broken so they either wont touch it or will charge me. My lappy is vital to me, and more so at the moment as I have a legal battle going on.

Does anyone know if Fujitsu Siemens Amilo lappys have security seals on the inside of them, obvious or not???

Many thanks for your help.

Don't know on the PI1505 but I have a Amilo D 1437G. On that there are two black Philips Screws in the base to remove a plastic cover and then you can remove the hard drive. There are no security seals on my Amilo.

If you need to take a copy of your data and assuming it's not hte hard drive that is faulty, you could removed the hard drive and fit it to a 2.5" External USB Drive enclosure and take a copy of all your data before reinstalling and returning to Siemens for repair. The drive enclosures are pretty cheap and available from the usual Internet Suppliers.
    Cheers
