Are the Power Companies operating a new scam or have I missed something ?
I was requested by Scottish Power to provide meter readings, whilst doing this I noticed the clock time on the meter was incorrect (1 hour slow) I queried this with S.P. and was told that they operated on GMT. This means that during British Summer Time I am paying full daytime rate for an extra hour each day (I am on Economy 7) a total of 210hrs per annum.
Is this normal ?????

Yes it is normal.
You still get the 7 hours off-peak during BST. That period starts 1 hour later and finishes 1 hour later.
For most people this is an advantage as the extra hour of off-peak supply in the morning enables appliances to be used during that time.
Economy 7 times vary across uk. For my area(Midlands) timings are 00:30 to 07:30 in winter(GMT) and 01:30 to 08:30 in summer(BST) that extra hour enables quite a bit extra to be used on off-peak.0 -
And the supplier has no control over the metering times anyway. The DNO determines that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Why is it that something that probably should be described as something "I don't really understand" nearly always get automatically characterised as a "scam" these days?

Economy 7 - it's the bane of many peoples lives
OK, lets move somewhere in time to the last weekend of March. It's been a cold winter but here is some good news, British Summer Time is here.
It is the Friday night before and for you (just for you) the economy 7 system we are looking at switches on at 11pm and switches off at 6am. It is on for seven hours and off for seventeen hours. Are we clear. This is the concept you must grasp. It is on for seven hours and off for seventeen hours regardless of what time it is. On 7, Off 17. Doesn't care about the time.
So on Friday night it switches on at 11pm and switches off at 6am (seven hours).
It is off for seventeen hours until Saturday night when it switches on at 11pm, it runs until 1am (two hours), we skip an hour to 2am, then it runs until 7am (five hours) on Sunday morning (on for seven hours)
It is off for seventeen hours until midnight going into Monday, when it switches on and switches off at 7am on Monday Morning.
We then move fast forward to the last weekend of October (groan!) and we are on the Friday before. It switches on at midnight going into Saturday and switches off at 7am on Saturday morning.
Seventeen hours off and it switches on at midnight going into Sunday.
It is on from midnight until 2am (two hours), then the clocks go back one hour and it is on from 1am until 6am (five hours). It is off for seventeen hours and switches back on at 11pm on Sunday night.

Cheers
Usually characterised by the post being entitled 'Urgent help needed, XYZ have ripped me off!!!'
I tend to skip those because they're predictable...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
