Lloyds Bank refused my PPI claim 15/07/13

  • As they have not looked into the fact you were self-employed you need to call them and let them know so they can get that looked into - the number is 0845 601 2683 - but alot of people dont know that PPI actually covered alot of self-employed people - it depends on the policy itself - they won't be able to answer that for you when you call - they will pass it on to the back team.
about the fact you cant prove what was said in the meeting, they will not do anything further for you on that as you have no proof.

if you want to go to the FOS about this MAKE SURE YOU DO IT WITHIN 6MONTHS OF THE DATE ON THE LAST LETTER YOU RECEIVED.
if you get back to LTSB about the self employment - they may take months to re-investigate as they dont have any timescales they need to stick to for re-investigation.

Hope it works out for you
  • I really appreciate all the advice I have been given regarding my claim. Thank you all.

I will draft the letter on Saturday so any further hints or suggestions are much appreciated.
  • Any further suggestions all?

Focus on the fact they clearly haven't investigated your complaint as they have failed to address the self-employment element. Tell them the policy was not discussed with you. Request a copy of the policy that was in use at the time of the sale as it is that policy which is relevant, not a more recent one. A blanket response that the policy covered the self-employed isn't good enough - they often contained specific conditions which may have made you ineligible to take out the policy or ineligible to claim - and it's a combination of the policy AND your individual work circumstances which matter. Did they ask you anything about your work with regards to the policy? Were you ever provided with policy documents?

I know your recall of the sale differs from what the bank has said and it's unprovable as such. What they have described is the sale that should have taken place - not the one that did, according to you. I would re-iterate your very clear memory of the event. It shows consistency and also that you're not going to just give up on this. Let them know that if they do not overturn their original decision you will be taking it to the FOS.
  • I am going to draw the letter up tonight after work and send by recorded delivery tommorow.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, I will take note of them.

Thanks also to everyone who has advised me, I will keep you all updated.

Read post 2 again. There's no point banging on about being self employed unless you know the cover didn't cover you.
