Disabled child element tax credit

Hello I was hoping someone could help me work out my payments from tax credit.

My 15 year old daughter was awarded low rate dla at tribunal backdated to 10.09.12.

I notified tax credits and have rung them this morning for an update.

My usual payment is 109.90 per week

They have updated the payments and have issued the back pay but after checking the entitled to website it don't seem correct to me
, but I could be mistaken.

This week I will get my normal payment of 109.90
The next day I will get 2 payments 1 of 176.97 and 1 at 677.07.

When I checked entitled to it upped my payments by approx £50 per week so I thought that would be what I get in back payments yet that don't seem to be what's happened.

She has just finished her year 11 and is returning to 6th form education in September so I know payments stop on 31.08 and recalculate on the 1/9 is this why there is a discrepancy.

Can you wonderful people tell me if this is correct and they have paid the right amount or if the calculations are incorrect

Thank you for any help

  • Are you sure that you get £109.90/week in CTC? If so then you must have more than one child. The disabled element for the PY year is £2950 and for this year is £3105 and I think that you should get 201 days worth of DCTC for last year from 10th Sept 2012 until 5th April. But my calculations make it a higher amount so I can only assume that there is some income tapering involved in your award. I would wait for the award letter to arrive or if it has look at what it says precisely as to what income they used and from when they back dated the DCTC from. There are people on here who can work it out for you to with in pennies if they know all the details.

Do HMRC know that you are on income related ESA in Support group?
I ask because the £109.90 seems slightly low. My workings out suggest it should be £115.10 / week this year before adding on the DCTC element and £113.95 / week or so for last year. Being on Income related ESA gives you full entitlement to Full CTC regardless. There may be no way to correct last year now, but you can correct this year at least. It should come out in the region of £174.81/week.
  • Thank you for your reply once again.

Yes hmrc are aware that I'm on ESA income related, I have been on ESA since my single claim began in 2011.

It looks there has been a mistake somewhere but the person I spoke too just told me it was correct and wait till I get my award notice and appeal if I thought it was incorrect.

Looks like I need to wait till I receive that award and ring them back to appeal if necessary.

    Thank you
