Can unrelated payments say for jobbing work or lyric sales be
paid in to this science titled limited company?

It's not the name of the company which matters but its purpose and so this depends on your memorandum and articles of association. What do they say in relation to the purpose of the company?

Do be aware being a director has legal responsibilities, and you should prepare for a punch in the nuts at the year-end when you'll need to do your company and tax returns (and likely pay your accountant to do so)
