Downstairs cloakroom or shower room?

Just want to get some advice on what others would do.
The house has a double-storey side extension measuring 8ft wide. Shower room is 8ft wide and 5ft long. Currently there is a shower room downstairs going off the study like this:

There is a bathroom upstairs. I'm not sure whether to change it to just a cloakroom with toilet and basin only as the shower room does need a full refurbishment. There is no window, only extractor fan.
I am going to change the layout a little bit, putting the door to the shower/cloakroom under the stairs so the study only has one door.

Might you ever need a downstairs bedroom with en suite for elderly or disabled friends or family?0

I think it depends how big the house is. If it's got six double bedrooms, you probably need a shower room as well as a bathroom. If it's got two bedrooms, you might not even need to bother with the cloakroom.0

I'd try to keep the shower if possible. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I'd keep the shower room - you never know when it might come in handy. I'm a firm believer in never having enough loos and bathrooms in a house
We downsized from our family home that had 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms plus a further 2 loos and in our next house (5 beds) we ended up with 2 downstairs shower rooms (3 of the bedrooms were on the ground floor) as well as a bathroom upstairs. When we sold a couple of years back our buyers were glad of the extra bathing facilities as they had 2 teenage kids and elderly parents intending to make use of the downstairs bedrooms/shower rooms
Even though there's just the 2 of us we've decided to keep a shower room downstairs in our current house - we took a bathroom out of the annexe and hadn't intended to replace it, as we have a further 2 bath/shower rooms upstairs, but considering the configuration of the house and potential uses of the third reception room we thought a shower room adjacent to it would be ideal further down the line if we again sold to someone with a teenager or elderly relative.......
It can also be useful for showering off muddy dogs/kids (if you have them) without the need to go upstairsMortgage-free for fourteen years!

definitely keep the downstairs shower room but would change the layout , I would not like anyone coming through my study/hobby room to use the loo0

I'd keep the shower. Can the study double as a guestroom when you have visitors?0

I would keep it as if you doing whole room anyway it won't cost much extra. For resale I would coincided leaving door invade to be usedas a down stairs bedroom. Could have 2 doors though maybe so don't need to come through study.Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0
