Being turfed out of flat ... why does this always happen?

After spending the tail end of last year in chaos trying to find a cheaper place to live closer to OH's work, being turned down at the last minute on one place, spending forever finding another, missing planned debt repayments to gather a deposit I thought we were all settled, everything was going great - cheap rent, quartered our travel expenses, even reduced the council tax - our debt free date looked like it had come forward to March 2008 - excellent! After then (when I'll have finished my MA) we planned to search out better jobs, move out of the area and closer to family and start saving for some travelling. All going great.
Now four months down the line our landlords have decided to get divorced, he's run off having not paid the last five months on the mortgage, house has been handed over to a property management company and we've been told we'll be served two months notice within the next month.
We can't afford to move again!!
I just feel like someone up there is enjoying playing tricks on us - setting up everything to look like it's going well and then suddenly throwing a load of !!!!!!!
Sorry - I just wanted to vent that really!

oh hun, so sorry to hear your bad news, it really is a kick in the teeth! am afraid I can offer no advice really, perhaps try contacting the property management company and see if you can continue renting there, is it like a property leasing company???
big hugs and remember every cloud has a silver lining, perhaps this one will too? xxx0 -

Thanks everyone, helps just to be able to vent to people who understand how much these things set you back.
It's just such a pain having to find a new deposit from somewhere, as well as hope we can track down somewhere affordable, near by and hopefully half decent in two months. It took us the best part of four months to find this place. We've tried asking the management company if we can stay on and they're saying it's unlikely.
This is the problem with being in debt- makes every problem seem ten times worse!"People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

is there not some sort of deposit you can get back from this flat.Barclaycard 3800

There is, but we won't get it until we've moved out and it's been checked over and everything. The last few places I've rented it's taken up to six months after moving out to get the deposit back (with no guarantee we get the full amount - you know how picky some landlords can be!) Renting in the south-east is just turning out to be a nightmare. I'm in half a mind for us just to say s*d it and move back up north straight away (at least we'd have the option of my Mum's spare room for a bit!). I have three tutorials for my Masters between September and December. I could post my assignment for the final deadline... I'm just really disillusioned by living down here, and OH even more so - just feel we want out as soon as we can."People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

My friend moved from Essex back to her home in Leeds really for exactly the same reason, she's never been happier. Being from here I do love it down here but I went up to visit her recently - and thought it was FAB. What is making you stay down here? Your OH work? and your masters?0
-
Well, originally I moved down here to do my Masters - I have a half-decent job, but not so great that it would be a major sacrifice to give it up. The plan was always that we would move as soon as possible after I'd finished my Masters. OH works for a chain pub, so could probably get a transfer, and if anything he's more eager to move than I am (he's a real salt of the earth Welshman and hates it down here!) - I don't know, part of me thinks it's a daft idea, the other is thinking "why not just do it?" hmmm...."People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

Sounds to me that fate is telling you to move back north!
On the other hand, contact your local council and explain your situation. They will take your housing application, and then when you are actually being made homeless, you may well be offered a flat or similar. It's best to get to know the available properties, and harrass them a bit, but it does work and your rent etc would robably be lower, with no deposit needed.0 -
I hadn't thought of contacting the council - I think we will probably try that actually."People who "do things" exceed my endurance,
